The Push Continues for Alex Cascatău at Assen

The fourth round of the GT & Prototype Challenge is right around the corner and Baticonsult Racing’s Alex Cascatău and Alain Berg are gearing up for yet another face-off with Deldiche Racing’s finest in the ultra-competitive CN class.

TT Circuit Assen is next on the menu for Alex Cascatău in his uphill battle to keep the GT & Prototype Challenge title won last year alongside Alain Berg. The duo will once again jump aboard Baticonsult Racing’s Norma M20 FC and travel to the Lowlands for what will actually be the third race meeting of the 2021 season since the Spa round was cancelled due to massive flooding.

Cascatău and Berg followed up the dreadful Hockenheim season-opener with a topsy-turvy performance at Zolder, less than a month ago, where the highlight was a runner-up finish in the first 55-minute + 1 lap race. Despite all the misfortune, Baticonsult Racing sits third in the standings with a respectable 52 points, less than 30 behind championship leader Tom Boonen. The former cycling star’s pair of victories put him a slim three points clear of Deldiche Racing team-mate Tim Joosen whose tally of 78 points has been gathered thanks to an uninterrupted streak of podium finishes.

With 23 points on offer for a race win and two races scheduled this weekend (August 6-8), Baticonsult Racing is confident it can further cut into Deldiche Racing’s lead as Cascatău was fast at Assen in the past. However, apart from the four-car CN class, there will also be no less than eight GT-class cars to contend with including a BMW M6 GT3 driven by none other than factory BMW Motorsport driver Nicky Catsburg. A Mercedes-AMG GT3, the by-now-traditional Z4 GT3s, and Cor Euser’s impressive MARC II V8 complement a packed 36-car grid that should also see the return of Max Aschoff’s ultra-fast Ginetta G58.

As ever, the weekend kicks-off with a healthy dose of free practice followed by qualifying and then the races, one on Saturday and another on Sunday. On a track as twisty and narrow as Assen, track position will be key so the team will look to keep the car going all the way throughout the short qualifying session. The strategy in the race should be the same as at Zolder with Alex taking the start before handing the car over to Alain towards the end of the pit window.

I’m happy to finally announce that we’ll make the trip to the Netherlands to contest the fourth round of the GT & Prototype Challenge. Despite a less-than-ideal start to our 2021 campaign, we are still in the championship hunt and you can be sure that me and Alain will give it our best to win at Assen. After all, it’s a circuit I really like and I’m sure Baticonsult Racing will once again prepare a great car for us and hopefully all the bad luck is now behind us.
